Marketable skill for the housewive toolbox

Today I was reminiscing about my early years (once again..) and decided to make one of my all-time favorite things – Russian pancakes. It was actually really easy and very yummy so I share the recipe here with you.

Russian Pancakes (Aладушки)

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • Salt – 0.25 tsp
  • Baking soda – 0.5 tsp
  • Sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Buttermilk (or Russian Kefir) – 0.5 cup
  • Flour – 1.5 cups
  • Optional: Sour Cream – 2 tbsp
Instructions:
Mix the eggs with the sugar. Then add the butter milk and mix (sour cream as well if using it). Combine the salt, flour and baking soda and add them to the mix. The texture should be kind of like a Greek yogurt texture when it’s ready. Then heat up the frying pan and pour small circles and fry on both sides. Serve with honey, jam or any other favorite toppings. You can also add chopped apples or craisins to the pancakes when you fry them.
I didn’t take a photo but the end result looked more or less like this:

10 Year Anniversary

Today is  a day to celebrate.  It’s my 10th year anniversary of living on American soil.

10 years ago, a little and innocent version of Grobby arrived in Texas, in a move that will change the course of the rest of her life. Who knows what I would have been doing today had I stayed in Israel? I could have become a scientist at Weizmann institute as predicted by my 9th grade science teacher. Or maybe get religious, moved to a settlement, and had 6 kids by now. I could have become a Mossad agent. Or a hippie. Or a druggie. Or an IT consultant. Or something else I can’t even think of. Who knows? I must say I am pretty happy with where I am regardless. Everything in life happens for a reason.
